After President Akufo-Addo retires in 2024, the quest to find a presidential candidate in the New Patriotic Party(NPP) will be very high. A lot of people will definitely expect the great Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to succeed Akufo-Addo as President. The battle is definitely not going to be easy for Bawumia, there are many popular N.P.P folks who will contest him, the likes of Alan Kyeremanten and Joe Gyartey who are all occupying great roles in these N.P.P government will be contesting Bawumia as presidential candidate in 2024.
Checking what happened to Aliu Mahama in 2008 after Ex-President Kufuor ended his president-ship which curtailed his dream of been a president, there is a sure repetition of this incident in 2024. Is Bawumia popular in N.P.P than Alan Kyeremanten and Joe Gyartey who all contested Akufo-Addo in the N.P.P primaries in 2014? Those Bawumia has the muscles to win against them in the primaries?
Joe Gyartey has already made it clear that he will be contesting as presidential candidate in 2024 which is even four years away in his recent interview. This further shows how Bawumia is going to face a heated competition in 2024 for the N.P.P presidential race because Joe Gyartey was third in the 2014 race against Akufo-Addo.

With Aliu Mahama who was the then Vice President of Kufuor securing an unimpressive 146 votes which gave him 6.39% in 2008(third place), with Mr Alan Kyerematen securing 738 votes which was 32.30%(second place) and Nana Addo who lost to Kufuor in 1993 securing 1,096 votes which is 47.97% in 2008 to become N.P.P presidential candidate.
With many N.P.P fans having started the agenda Mahamudu Bawumia for 2024 president, they may have to break the shell of Bawumia winning the 2024 N.P.P presidential primaries. Can Bawumia become the first Muslim Presidential candidate for N.P.P or another Aliu Mahama story in the making?
