Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Honorable Ken Ofori-Atta is currently not in the country after he was flown to the United States of America (USA) for medical treatment.
According to a release cited by Ghanaontheglobe.com from the public relations department of the Finance Ministry, Mr. Ofori-Atta was flown on Sunday, 14th February, 2021 to America for Medical care after he suffered some complications from his Covid-19 treatment.
Months ago the Finance Minister was reported to have contracted Covid-19 which he successfully recovered in December 2020.
It has been revealed that Ken suffered a servere complication after recovering from Covid-19 which needs some Medical attention in America. He will be spending two weeks in America for treatment. He was suppose to be vetted by parliament on 16th February but due to this the date has to rescheduled after he comes back to the country.
Kenneth Ofori-Atta was born on 7th November 1958, he is a Ghanaian economist, investment banker, and politician as well as the co-founder of Databank Group, a Ghanaian investment firm. He currently serves as the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning in the cabinet of Nana Akufo-Addo. He was appointed by President Nana Akufo-Addo on 10 January 2017 and assumed office on 27 January 2017. He has been re-appointed to continue till 2024.
The release states,
“The Ministry of Finance wishes to inform the general public and stakeholders that Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, the Representative of the President at the Ministry of Finance and Minister-designate for Finance, will travel to the United States of America today for a special medical review. After recovering from Covid-19 last December, Mr. Ofori-Atta has had medical complications which doctors advise, require further interventions not currently available in Ghana.
He is expected to be away for two weeks. Mr. Ofori-Atta was scheduled to appear
before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, 16th February, 2021. The leadership of Parliament has been duly notified for a new date to be fixed upon his return.
