The National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr Freddie Blay has stated that the cost of the Covid-19 Vaccines is suppose to be paid by Ghanaians and not the government.
Chairman Freddie Blay has justified President Akufo-Addo’s decision to introduce the COVID-19 levy and other taxes in the budget statement for the 2021 fiscal year.
According to Freddie Blay, countries all over the world compel citizens to pay for the Covid-19 vaccines to enable their authorities procure vaccines to restore the health sector which was cited by Ghanaontheglobe.com.
Ghana, he said is no exception hence the introduction of the COVID-19 levy is a step in the right direction.

According to Ghanaontheglobe.com, he made this statement during an interview on an Accra based television after Ghanaians criticized the current government for introducing Covid-19 levy. Mr Blay said these in an exclusive interview with TV3’s Dzifa Bampoe
He said “But we are going to have vaccines. All of the world that people are having vaccines you need to pay it for that, it cost a lot.”
As earlier on reported by Ghanaontheglobe.com, Akufo-Addo led government has introduced in the 2021 budget statement a Covid-19 Health Levy of a one percentage point increase in the National Health Insurance Levy and a one percentage point increase in the VAT Flat Rate to support expenditures related to Covid-19.
