Upon several checks from relevant stakeholders, it has come to our notice that the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council Electoral Commission (UGSRC EC) still insist on using a third party to organise the online section of the elections.
It is mind boggling as to why the EC would want to use a private entity instead of University of Ghana Computing Systems (UGCS) that has proven itself wealthy of putting in place a more credible system for the elections .
Could it be that the allegations that the ECs, Mr Henry Akron and Bright Siaw , are in bed with some four candidates to steal and rig the elections in their favour true ?
Could it also be that the EC has a share in the 20,000 Ghana cedis contract to be awarded to a private entity to conduct the online section of the election and hence giving the contract to UGCS who would charge less deprive them of their percentage share.
Why insist on making UGCS play a supervisory role over a private entity when they would charge less, and put in system that cant be hack.
Why would you want to risk the students private information in the hands of a third party who could sell it to private entities when the body that manages such information actually has a more robust structure to protect the students data?.
Why would you want to risk a students full name, ID number, email, private phone number and pin in the hands of a third party who is likely to sell that information to any other third party for whatever purpose they choose.
The ECs must really reflect on the long term harm they are going to cause to individual students than trying to please their selfish interests of gaining 50 percent of share of the contract fee and then pleasing their political pay masters .
