It is quite incomprehensibly irratating that the key leadership of University of Ghana have shut their hears, closed their mouths as far as the hopeless masses of students who have been denied residential accomodation are concerned.
The school’s residential accomodation portal was opened on Tuesday, January 4th after they failed to adhere to their initial schedule which is 3rd January.
Majority of the students have failed to secure their accommodation which have been estimated to be close to 90% out of the eligible students.
University of Ghana students most especially level 100 and 200 are sad and despised due to the accommodation issue.
As a matter of fact many of the students reside at far away distance like Northern Region, Bono Region, Upper East Region, Ashanti Region and others.
How are they going to cope with their accomodation after the University have squeezed them of a possible accomodation through their rigorous and unreliable online medium.
It is constructive to note that the Vice Chancellor Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Senior Hall Tutor, UGSRC, JCR and others have kept mute on this accomodation “wahala” as if all is well.
Majority of the level 100, 200 and others haven’t secured a hall and the authorities are calm as if nothing is wrong.
Students have no option than to pay a gargantuan amount of money to get the highly expensive private hostels.
The University of Ghana cannot continue to eulogize mediocrity, this is the premier University of Ghana and the leadership must find a solution to this problem once and for all.
It is a shame for students at the University of Ghana to struggle for just an accommodation in the 21st century.
Enough of the long bureaucratic talk which yield little physical result, this is the best time for leadership to stand up and address this accomodation issue if they really care.
90% of students fail to secure UG accomodation; VC, SRC must do something immediately
Majority of University of Ghana students have failed to secure an accommodation through no fault of theirs after the online portal was opened.
Where did all the halls go? The Vice Chancellor of University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo and the Acting UGSRC President Stephanie Naadu must do something.
Ghanaontheglobe.com took the herculean task to make inquiries by randomly calling students whether they got the residential halls but unfortunately to our shock, 90% of the students we called are sad because they couldn’t secure the traditional halls after the residential online portal went down before the time was due.
Within seconds all the halls became empty? how possible? are the students competing with robots? These questions must be answered immediately.
What is the Vice Chancellor doing about this? Where is the Ag. UGSRC President Stephanie Naadu also doing since she represent the student population.
The authorities of University of Ghana must make sure that any room been hoarded should be released to students.
If not the management of the University must account to the student population about how the rooms where allocated.
80% to 90% of students not getting the school residential accomodation is a serious crisis.
The Ag. UGSRC President Stephanie Naadu must show courage and do something immediately.
