The former regional minister for Greater Accra, Ishmael Ashitey is reportedly dead.
ghanaontheglobe.com can confirm that Ishmael Ashitey has passed out while seeking medical attention at the Tema General Hospital.
Our report shows that the 68 years old deceased recently returned from United State where he underwent medical treatments for an undisclosed illness.
Mr. Ishmael Ahitey also served as the regional chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Ashitey has served as a member of parliament for the Tema East constituency in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th parliaments of the 4th republic of Ghana. This span from 7 January 2001 to 6 January 2009.
Mr. Ashitey served as a Minister of State at the Ministries of Food and Agriculture and Trade, Industry & President’s Special Initiatives under the leadership and government of John Agyekum Kufuor.
During the 2016 elections, Mr. Ashitey as the Regional Chairman of NPP led his party to retain and regain most of the Parliamentary seats in Greater Accra which eventually helped the party to attain victory leading to his appointment.
Currently, he was the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of NPP, Member of (NEC) NPP, and a member of the NPP National Council.
Mr. Ashitey was a Presbyterian and enjoys reading, swimming, walking, and listening to good music.
He is married with four children.
