No UG student leader is above criticism; Even Nkrumah was criticized – Osman Nuhu write’s

Since time immemorial criticism has been a tool deployed by followers to keep leaders on their toes, great and inconvincible globally acclaimed leaders like Nelson Mandela, Kwame Nkrumah, Marcus Garvey, Mahatma Gandhi, just to mention a few haven’t been spared from criticism.

American Protestant clergyman, Norman Vincent Peale once stated that, “The trouble with most of us is that we’d rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism”, and that’s why I won’t keep quiet just to please somebody’s whims and caprices.

The bizarre with which some University of Ghana student leaders assume an unquestionable charisma and “JJ Rawlings” kind of entitlement after assuming office looks quite mind blowing.

What sort of leader are you if you feel threatened and angered when your followers question you?

This article comes to address the kind of unquestionable mentality that some University of Ghana student leaders have starting from the University of Ghana Student Representative Council (UGSRC) leaders and their cohorts feeling that any views contrary to theirs is a no go area.

No UGSRC leader and other student leadership on University of Ghana campus is above criticism, immediately you feel that your followers have no right to question you then you have no locus to occupy such position.

The UGSRC leadership and other student leadership positions on University of Ghana campus are not to be angered by contrary views but they are to prove people wrong with their works.

The high entitlement and unrealistic egotistic nature of some University of Ghana student leaders is quite a bizarre that has the tendency to erase a good sense of cooperation between students and the leadership.

I wrote an article about UGSRC Ag. President Stephanie Naadu and all of a sudden some of his cohorts started speculating that I have been bribed, really!!

The question most of her followers failed to realize is that we all supported her administration including personally publishing Pro-bono articles for her, so did she also bribe us? Such lame views.

Most University of Ghana student leaders become easily irritated and pissed immediately they are cautioned about relevant stuffs relating to their position.

Why should a genuine leader feel threatened when his own followers that voted for him/her into power question their administration. Who does that?

We all need a better University of Ghana, and a better University of Ghana can be achieved when every Tom, Dick and Harry respect the space of others including the thoughts of creative writers like myself who are ready to congratulate and criticize genuinely when the need arises.

As far as generational leadership is concern, University of Ghana currently is slacking behind and the time has come to redeem our past glory by honoring and taking criticisms whole heatedly.

No UG student leader knows it all and they alone can’t do it all that is why both leaders and followers all need to work together to achieve a greater output .

“Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfills the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.”
– Winston Churchill, my last words of goodwill message to all University of Ghana student leaders.
